Salary: USD 196,000 - 269,500 / annual
Faire is a technology wholesale platform connecting independent retailers globally with suppliers. This Senior Counsel role advises product and engineering teams on legal and regulatory matters while helping shape Faire's positions on emerging legislation and regulation.
You will partner directly with engineering, product, data, and design teams to provide practical legal guidance across multiple domains on product development and go-to-market strategy. You'll monitor legislative and regulatory developments across local, state, and federal jurisdictions to evaluate implications for Faire and the small businesses on its platform. Working with stakeholders across the company and externally, you'll develop Faire's positions on potential legislation and regulation, translate emerging legal obligations into practical product and operational requirements, and manage relationships with trade associations, coalitions, and external consultants to ensure cohesive advocacy efforts. You'll also support Faire's engagement and advocacy efforts with regulators, legislators, and their staff.
Faire was founded in 2017 by early product and engineering leads from Square and is backed by top-tier investors including Y Combinator, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, and others. The company has headquarters in San Francisco and Kitchener-Waterloo, with offices in Toronto, London, and New York. Hybrid employees work in-office three days per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a flex day) with flexibility to work remotely up to four weeks per year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of relevant experience at a law firm, in-house, in government, and/or at a judicial clerkship
- Meaningful exposure to how law and policy get made, either as a legislative aide, in an agency or administration, or through regulatory advocacy
- Willingness to travel
- Experience counseling product teams and/or online marketplaces is a plus
- Actively experimenting with AI in legal work, and excited to go deeper
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide risk-calibrated and solution-focused advice to product and engineering teams
- Scrappy and resourceful – when something needs to get done, you find a way to make it happen
