Dandy is transforming the dental industry by building an operating system for dental practices globally. The company is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer - Mechatronics to join the Precision Robotics R&D team in Milpitas, CA. This hybrid role focuses on developing integrated controls and mechatronic architecture for next-generation Special Purpose Machines (SPM) that manufacture custom-made dental prosthetics.
You will architect complex, high-performance robotic and electromechanical systems from concept through production, ensuring micron-level accuracy. Key responsibilities include designing and developing robust control software, architecting HMI and SCADA strategies for real-time production monitoring, and driving hands-on prototyping and integration work including wiring control cabinets and sensor/actuator integration. You will serve as a technical point of contact bridging mechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, and lead full project lifecycles including functional requirement specifications, vendor management, and Factory/Site Acceptance Testing.
Required qualifications include 6+ years in high-volume precision manufacturing, automation, or robotics with system-level architecture and hardware/software integration experience. You must have a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics, or related engineering discipline. Technical expertise required: PLC programming and SCADA (Ignition, Allen-Bradley, Siemens), robot programming and offline simulation (FANUC, ABB, KUKA), backend programming (C++/Python), robotic kinematics and motion control, and hardware/software interfaces (EtherCAT, Profinet, CANopen). Bonus skills include high-performance motion controllers (Beckhoff/TwinCAT, ACS, Elmo), vision-guided robotics, AOI systems, safety standards (ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066, ISO 13482), ROI/CAPEX analysis, and CAD proficiency (Creo, SolidWorks, Onshape).
