Form Energy is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join the Manufacturing Control and Execution Systems team at their West Virginia battery manufacturing facility. You will design, develop, and deploy industrial control and execution systems for Form Energy's iron-air battery production equipment. Reporting to a Senior Controls Engineering Manager, you will serve as a technical lead on electrical and instrumentation projects, coordinating across automation, robotics, vision, and SCADA teams to ensure technical requirements are met on schedule and budget.
Key responsibilities include: designing and developing control systems under direction of staff-level engineers; leading electrical and instrumentation projects with cross-functional coordination; mentoring less experienced controls engineers; providing technical guidance on production support and troubleshooting; rotating on-call support for off-hour escalations; working directly with equipment vendors to ensure compliance with Form Energy standards, including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT); executing internal projects including electrical schematics, instrumentation selection, and functional safety integration; and collaborating with production, maintenance, and operations teams on continuous improvements.
You bring 6+ years of applied experience designing and troubleshooting industrial control systems in high-volume manufacturing. Required expertise includes advanced PLC proficiency in Siemens TIA-Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000; practical experience with SCADA and HMI platforms (Ignition Perspective, Siemens WinCC, or Rockwell FTView); strong functional safety programming knowledge (ProfiSafe and CIP Safety); ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics; experience integrating vision systems and barcode scanners (Keyence, Cognex); and excellent technical communication skills. A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent practical experience) is required.
