Quantum-Systems is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to design and lead robust control layers for a diverse fleet of autonomous vehicles. You will serve as the critical boundary between high-level autonomy planning and vehicle execution, ensuring that motion commands are executed safely and within physical constraints.
In this role, you will own control architecture abstraction—maintaining a standardized, platform-agnostic interface that cleanly separates planning logic from mechanical complexity. You'll design multivariable control laws for path tracking, velocity execution, and actuator allocation, leveraging data-driven techniques to dynamically distribute effort across multiple actuators. Using system identification methods, you will characterize unknown plant dynamics, latencies, and actuator responses in real-world conditions.
Your work will address complex, non-linear scenarios: sudden tire slip, challenging terrain (mud, gravel, potholes, dense vegetation), steep inclines, side slopes, and asymmetric system degradation. You will validate control loops pragmatically—relying on filter design and linear/nonlinear analysis to iterate quickly rather than waiting for full-system simulations. Motion safeguarding is critical: you'll ensure incoming commands are dynamically evaluated, bounded, and validated against real vehicle constraints in real time.
Required expertise includes proven experience developing and deploying real-time closed-loop control systems. You must have deep foundational knowledge of classical control theory (frequency-domain loop-shaping, stability margins via Bode/Nyquist, state-space design with LQR/pole-placement). Strong theoretical and practical grounding in nonlinear control—specifically differential geometry, feedback linearization, and differential flatness—is essential. You'll need proficiency in Kalman filtering for state estimation under non-holonomic constraints, and high proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, C++, or Python to translate complex control logic into clean, deterministic real-time execution.
The environment is a dynamic, fast-paced startup with flat hierarchies and collaborative culture. You'll see your work rapidly integrated from research into industrialized products deployed in the field within short development cycles. Benefits include flexible schedules, 30 days paid vacation, monthly lunch budget, and company-subsidized gym membership.
