Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Configuration Design Engineer to lead architectural design and optimization for advanced Group 5 Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and missile programs. In this role, you will own the end-to-end conceptual design process, from mission analysis and configuration trade studies through architecture selection and detailed geometric definition.
You will drive the design of Outer and Inner Mold Lines (OML/IML), establishing geometric standards for downstream analysis teams in CFD, FEA, and CEM. Using parametric modeling and design optimization tools (MATLAB, Isight, HEEDS, NX Unigraphics), you will define and mature aircraft sizing methodologies and deploy robust design paths. You will lead high-level vehicle trade studies encompassing engine selection, control effector layout, fuel systems, weapons integration, and mass properties analysis.
As a technical leader, you will serve as the primary decision-maker for early-stage pursuits, shaping concept white papers, customer proposals, and technology roadmaps in partnership with Chief Engineers. You will apply deep engineering expertise to evaluate configuration alternatives for low-observable (RF/IR signature) survivability, propulsion integration, and structural feasibility. Mentoring junior configuration and design engineers is a key responsibility, establishing standards for CAD modeling, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and design release processes.
You will interface directly with integrated product teams (IPTs), suppliers, and military customers to present configuration concepts and resolve complex design challenges. This role requires 8+ years of experience in conceptual or preliminary design of aerospace systems, with demonstrated technical leadership on UAS, military aircraft, or advanced missile programs. Expert-level proficiency in 3D parametric CAD (Siemens NX preferred, CATIA, or Creo) and extensive experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams are essential. A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field is required.
