Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join its Space team in Costa Mesa, California. The Space team is dedicated to expanding AI-powered capabilities for Space Domain Awareness, Space Control, and Command and Control for U.S. military and allied partners, developing fully integrated hardware and software systems including Lattice for Space Missions and modular payloads.
In this role, you will design and develop perception subsystems for spacecraft across all orbital regimes (LEO, MEO, GEO, Reentry, and RPOD). You will be responsible for hardware sensor design, advanced processing platforms, navigation algorithms, flight software implementation, subsystem integration and test, and vehicle integration and test. The Computer Vision Engineer will work on algorithm design, truth and physics modeling, scene rendering, simulation and analysis for a wide variety of space missions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Proposing and prototyping innovative computer vision solutions using state-of-the-art techniques
- Developing and maintaining core CV libraries and runtime applications
- Integrating classical, geometric, and ML-based computer vision methods
- Working on space vehicle CV software and hardware subsystems for various spacecraft efforts
- Developing software-defined approaches to autonomous spacecraft operations with maneuvering capabilities
- Developing test plans and procedures to validate CV systems during ground checkout, on-orbit commissioning, and operations
- Collaborating across multiple teams (Sensors, GNC, Avionics, Systems, Flight Software, Mission Operations, Ground Software)
- Coordinating with end-users, operators, and customers to translate needs into features
- Supporting challenging schedules during ground testing, launch windows, and on-orbit operations
- Designing flight software, firmware, algorithms, and simulation products
- Developing space vehicle autonomy tools for dynamic space operations
- Defining automated fault detection and response systems
- Providing hardware-in-the-loop and Monte Carlo simulation capabilities
Required qualifications include an MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, or Image Science with computer vision emphasis (or BS in related field), advanced professional experience developing and benchmarking ML algorithms on large-scale datasets, high proficiency in C++ development in Linux environments, and experience with object detection, tracking, segmentation, visual odometry, SLAM, multi-view geometry, structure from motion, or related techniques. Familiarity with terminal guidance, rendezvous proximity operations and docking, orbital mechanics, and spacecraft GNC is preferred. This role is directly tied to ongoing, funded programs within Anduril's Space Business Line.
