Anduril Industries is seeking a Senior Computer Vision Engineer to join its Space team in Washington, DC. The role focuses on designing and implementing perception subsystems for spacecraft operating across all orbital regimes (LEO, MEO, GEO, reentry, and rendezvous/proximity operations/docking). You will work on hardware sensors, advanced processing platforms, navigation algorithms, flight software, and subsystem integration and testing.
Key responsibilities include: developing and maintaining core computer vision libraries and runtime applications; integrating classical geometric methods with modern ML techniques; designing flight software, firmware, and algorithms for autonomous spacecraft operations; developing test plans and procedures for ground checkout, on-orbit commissioning, and operations; collaborating across sensors, guidance/navigation/control, avionics, systems, flight software, mission operations, and ground software teams; coordinating with end-users and customers to translate mission needs into features; supporting challenging schedules during ground testing, launch windows, and on-orbit operations; designing space vehicle autonomy tools; developing hardware-in-the-loop and Monte Carlo simulation capabilities; and defining automated fault detection and response systems.
Required qualifications include an MS or PhD in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, or Image Science with computer vision emphasis (or BS in related field); advanced professional experience developing and benchmarking ML algorithms on large-scale datasets; high proficiency in C++ development in Linux environments; experience in object detection, tracking, segmentation, semantic change detection, or natural feature tracking; expertise in visual odometry, SLAM, multi-view geometry, structure from motion, 3D geometry, stereo vision, neural 3D reconstruction, or multi-sensor fusion; ability to understand complex systems and detailed requirements; familiarity with terminal guidance, rendezvous proximity operations, orbital mechanics, and spacecraft guidance/navigation/control; and strong communication and documentation skills.
This role is directly tied to ongoing, funded defense programs within Anduril's Space Business Line, requiring the development and fielding of resilient, software-defined spacecraft systems to meet complex DOD and Intelligence Community challenges on operationally-relevant timelines.
