Klarna is building an everyday finance network serving over 120 million consumers across 26 countries. The company operates under strict EU financial regulation including PSD2, the Consumer Credit Directive, AML/CFT rules, and GDPR.
You will join Klarna's Compliance Testing Team as part of the second line of defense, serving as the EU regulatory subject matter expert. Your role is to independently verify that Klarna's compliance controls work in practice, not just on paper. When colleagues need to understand what a directive or EBA guideline requires, they will turn to you.
Key responsibilities:
- Own compliance tests from scoping through reporting and follow-up, including designing testing scripts, conducting stakeholder interviews, and performing fieldwork
- Assess both design and operating effectiveness of controls against EU requirements, EBA guidance, and Klarna's internal policies
- Account for national implementation variations across markets where Klarna operates
- Use data analysis, automation, and AI-enabled tools to scope and sample tests; analyze full data populations rather than relying solely on manual samples
- Build and maintain repeatable automated tests and monitoring systems
- Write clear reports for senior management outlining findings, risks, and recommendations
- Track compliance observations from testing through corrective action closure
- Serve as primary contact for business and compliance stakeholders throughout testing cycles
The team emphasizes data-driven testing and automation. You'll work in a setting where analyzing full data populations is the expectation, with manual sampling as a fallback. Most teams meet in the office 2–3 days per week, with variation by team.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years in compliance testing, compliance monitoring, internal audit, or external audit within financial services, fintech, banking, or payments
- Understanding of how second line of defense functions identify and mitigate risk
- Experience designing or running testing scripts, audit programs, or structured review methodologies (scoping, sampling, evidence-based assessment)
- Knowledge of EU regulatory landscape for payments and consumer credit
- Tested or audited against at least one of: PSD2, Consumer Credit Directive, EBA outsourcing/third-party oversight guidelines, AML/CFT requirements, or GDPR
- Ability to query and validate testing data using SQL, Python, or BI/dashboarding tools
- Experience applying AI or automation to compliance work, or strong interest in doing so, with critical evaluation of AI-generated outputs
- Strong written and verbal English communication; ability to present findings to stakeholders with confidence
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority tests simultaneously while maintaining accuracy
Bonus qualifications:
- Working knowledge of EU requirements implementation in at least one EU Member State
- Familiarity with national competent authorities and European Supervisory Authorities supervision approaches
- Awareness of PSD3 and PSR developments
