Adyen is a global financial technology platform providing payments, data, and financial products for major clients including Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft.
You will join the Global Compliance Advisory & Oversight function as a Senior Compliance Advisory Officer based in Tokyo. This role bridges Compliance with commercial and operational teams, providing strategic and pragmatic advice on complex compliance matters to internal stakeholders and customers.
Key responsibilities:
- Represent Compliance to commercial and operational teams, facilitating communication with specialized Compliance, Regulatory, Legal, and Risk functions; conduct compliance trainings
- Provide ad-hoc compliance advice to internal stakeholders and customers, deconstructing complex challenges and supporting solutions aligned with Adyen's strategic objectives and risk appetite
- Perform and coordinate Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) risk assessments, assembling expertise from internal specialists across functions to provide customer acceptance advice to senior management
- Strengthen and scale Adyen's Compliance framework in line with risk appetite and strategic objectives
- Challenge the status quo by identifying opportunities to leverage data and technology for more efficient and effective compliance processes
You will work with an international team in an office-first environment that values in-person collaboration.
Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in a second line of defence (2LoD) Compliance function at a Payment Service Provider, FinTech, or Financial Institution
- Robust knowledge of regulatory and licensing regimes for payment/e-money institutions
- Thorough understanding of AML/CFT (Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism) risks
- Proven familiarity with Card Scheme definitions and rules
- Analytical mindset with ability to deconstruct complex compliance challenges into manageable components
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to articulate advice with clarity and tailor to diverse audiences
- Ability to maintain oversight and drive multiple complex topics simultaneously through structured work approach
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with peers and customers from various disciplines and cultures
- Fluency in both Japanese and English
