Applied Intuition Defence is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join its London-based team. You will design, build, and operate UK-hosted infrastructure that powers next-generation autonomous capabilities for defence and national security customers. This role is embedded directly with the engineering teams you support, ensuring you understand their pain points and can deliver solutions that meaningfully improve developer velocity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and architecting UK-hosted infrastructure from the ground up, making deliberate choices about tools and patterns rather than inheriting technical debt
- Building and deploying products into cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped environments using infrastructure-as-code principles
- Hosting UK-approved AI models for use in secure defence programmes
- Identifying and eliminating friction in developer workflows through custom tooling and automation
- Owning CI/CD systems, deployment strategies, and Hardware-in-the-Loop integration
- Debugging distributed systems edge cases and leading incident response
- Collaborating with product managers and customers to translate requirements into technical architecture
- Contributing solutions back to the broader Applied Intuition organisation
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related engineering field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying production infrastructure
- Deep expertise with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Strong proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform
- Expert-level knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and containerised systems
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) and Linux operating systems
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative in fast-paced environments and improve system documentation
- Ability to obtain UK Security Clearance (current or previous clearance preferred)
Desirable experience includes 7+ years in infrastructure/platform/DevOps roles, Kubernetes deployment on bare metal or in air-gapped networks, security and regulatory compliance, ML model serving in production, and prior work on national security projects. The role requires general willingness to travel between offices and customer sites.
