Fervo Energy seeks a Senior Cloud Engineer to design, build, and operate an Azure-native cloud platform that supports the company's infrastructure and operations at scale. This role is central to the engineering organization, requiring hands-on expertise in infrastructure as code, cloud automation, and platform engineering. Key responsibilities include: **Infrastructure as Code & Delivery**: Build and maintain production infrastructure using Terraform and/or Bicep, creating reusable modules that provision Azure resources consistently across multiple environments and field sites. Design and implement CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, enforcing GitOps workflows where all changes flow through version control, pull requests, and peer review. **Platform Engineering & Self-Service**: Develop and iterate on golden paths and self-service capabilities that enable internal teams to provision infrastructure independently. Codify guardrails as policy to maintain security, cost, and tagging standards without requiring one-to-one engineering support. **Systems Configuration & Fleet Management**: Automate Linux and Windows configuration management using tools like Ansible, SUSE Manager, Microsoft Intune, and Group Policy. Maintain baseline images and standards to ensure new hosts—including field and edge compute—are provisioned in a known, compliant state. **Operations, Security & Compliance**: Operate Azure landing zones and platform services within an Entra ID / Zero Trust security model. Implement comprehensive observability across monitoring, logging, alerting, and cost management. Ensure all changes flow through auditable pipelines supporting SOX ITGC compliance and apply NERC CIP-aligned controls where applicable. Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent; 8+ years in infrastructure support/engineering with demonstrated progression; 6+ years in cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering; production experience with Terraform and/or Bicep including reusable modules; hands-on Git/GitHub and GitHub Actions experience; demonstrated coding ability in Python and/or PowerShell; experience automating both Linux and Windows systems. Preferred: platform engineering experience with internal developer platforms; GCP experience; SUSE Manager or Red Hat Satellite; policy-as-code and secrets management tools; regulated-sector experience with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or NERC CIP; relevant Azure certifications.
