Planet is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to drive growth of Planet's satellite imaging and geospatial data solutions within the US Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. This role focuses on the US Combatant Commands, Military Service Elements, and associated procurement entities. You will own the full business development lifecycle: identifying and qualifying critical operational needs, shaping program requirements and budgets, and executing capture strategies for RFIs, White Papers, Unsolicited Proposals, and RFPs. You'll build long-term strategic pipelines by developing trusted relationships with senior civilian and military leadership across the Joint Staff, Service branches, and Defense/Intelligence organizations. Key responsibilities include: - Developing and executing engagement strategies to align Planet's satellite and data capabilities with DoD operational priorities - Actively participating in industry days, community forums, and strategic events to understand customer missions, budgets, and acquisition cycles - Leading competitive intelligence and market assessments to position Planet for new business opportunities - Coordinating cross-functional responses to RFPs and bid decisions with proposal managers and product leadership - Collaborating with the USG Sales Director, Account Executives, and Government Affairs on policy and strategic initiatives - Maintaining alignment with global Business Development teams on multi-country defense alliances and coalitions You'll need 10+ years of relevant experience, including direct work within DoD Combatant Commands, Service Elements, or the Intelligence Community (civilian or military). Strong knowledge of DoD Program Executive Offices, Portfolio Acquisition Executives, and budgetary processes is essential. You must be comfortable communicating with senior military flag officers and civilian leadership, with excellent presentation, writing, and interpersonal skills. Background in aerospace, remote sensing, or defense technology is highly valued. This is a full-time hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the Washington, DC office.
