As a Senior Build Reliability Engineer (Machining) at Impulse, you will own the connection between design requirements, manufacturing execution, and flight performance for machined hardware components in spacecraft builds. You will work hands-on with manufacturing technicians, engineers, and cross-functional teams to prevent defects, diagnose failures rapidly, and drive continuous improvement in hardware reliability. Key responsibilities include identifying and investigating build defects through root cause analysis and corrective actions; developing inspection requirements, acceptance criteria, and quality control processes aligned with mission reliability needs; performing development testing to guide design decisions and characterize hardware performance; and providing design-for-reliability guidance during design reviews and build planning. You will optimize MRP/ERP systems for improved hardware traceability and data collection, balance inspection and testing with lean manufacturing principles, and develop build quality metrics to improve the overall quality landscape. You will serve as a specification custodian for inspection plans, storage and handling procedures, and process control plans. Additional responsibilities include training and certifying manufacturing technicians for elevated sign-off privileges, interfacing with supply chain partners to improve vendor hardware quality, and ensuring hardware integrity by maintaining quality standards and driving corrective actions to completion. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, plus 5+ years of experience in hardware manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-reliability systems. You must have demonstrated experience supporting production builds, integration, or test of primary structures and complex mechanical or electromechanical systems, strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills, and strong theoretical and working knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
