BRINC is a vertically integrated U.S. drone technology company building autonomous emergency-response systems for public safety. The company designs and manufactures unmanned aircraft systems, autonomous drone stations, command-and-control software, and advanced autonomy. BRINC operates Drone as First Responder (DFR) networks that dispatch drones directly to 911 calls, providing real-time aerial intelligence before ground units arrive. The company serves over 1,000 public safety customers across all 50 states and is the sole drone supplier to Motorola Solutions.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the LiveOps team, you will own and build the real-time backend infrastructure that keeps BRINC's public safety drones connected, streaming, and fully operational in high-stakes environments. You will focus on low-latency telemetry, video distribution, remote control links, and system uptime in mission-critical scenarios where seconds matter.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the scalable backend platform supporting worldwide real-time services
- Ensuring the platform is secure, reliable, and performant
- Building platform infrastructure and tooling
- Rapidly prototyping new project ideas for customers and internal stakeholders
- Working with cross-functional hardware and autonomy teams to solve challenges like streaming and displaying live drone data for non-technical users in various formats
You will work at the intersection of backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, and hardware-in-the-loop systems, making major impacts in a fast-paced startup environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
- 5+ years of experience shipping high-quality code and building robust infrastructure
- Experience building backend platforms from infrastructure up to the API layer
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, etc.) and comfort switching between software engineering and Cloud DevOps
- Familiarity with serverless architecture and understanding of tradeoffs between performance and cost at scale
- Demonstrated experience with cloud architectures focused on scale, performance, and security
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with real-time systems or embedded software development
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Bonus: experience building real-time data platforms and scalable microservice architectures with security and encryption requirements
