As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll join a distributed team spanning the U.S. and India to design and deliver resilient, scalable backend systems powering critical platform features. You'll own the full lifecycle of backend services—from architecture and design through production reliability—working with Go microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Go microservices
- Drive technical architecture decisions and contribute to long-term system health by anticipating scaling and maintenance needs
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and frontend teams to deliver high-impact features
- Participate in system design reviews and contribute to overall engineering strategy
- Own code quality, reliability, and observability from development through production
- Help plan and execute projects from inception to delivery with strong ownership and outcome orientation
- Mentor peers and junior engineers, sharing knowledge and encouraging best practices
You'll report to the Manager of Engineering and participate in on-call rotations for production systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with modern programming languages (Go, Java, Python, Ruby, or C#; Go preferred or willingness to learn)
- Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and inter-service communication (protobufs/gRPC, REST, NSQ)
- Experience working with relational databases and SQL
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and take responsibility for production systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Deployed and maintained services in cloud environments, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Comfortable with Docker/Kubernetes, observability tooling (metrics, alerts, tracing), and service reliability
- Experience with protobufs/gRPC or Temporal, and breaking monoliths into microservices
- Thoughtful approach to technical debt and scalability
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to communicate complex systems to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Curiosity-driven mindset and commitment to elevating the team
