ICEYE is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join the Fleet Control and Satellite Communications department in Espoo, Finland. This role reports to the Engineering Manager of Satellite Fleet Planning and offers the opportunity to build systems that directly impact global intelligence, disaster response, and security operations.
You will design and operate scalable backend services for satellite fleet planning, building production-grade distributed systems with strong reliability and observability practices. Your responsibilities include owning services end-to-end from design through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement. You'll work closely with engineers across ground systems, satellite operations, and external integrations to improve system performance, fault tolerance, and operational visibility.
The role focuses on solving hard backend problems such as scheduling, optimization, and distributed coordination in a constrained environment where reliability is critical. You'll work with a modern tech stack combining cloud infrastructure, on-premises systems, and real hardware, bringing software together with physical constraints. The engineering culture is AI-positive, with active use of copilots and LLMs to improve speed, code quality, and productivity.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of experience building and running production backend systems, with strong focus on operability (monitoring, alerting, debugging). You must have proven experience with distributed systems at scale, proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages, and hands-on experience with modern infrastructure (containers, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code). Active use of AI-assisted development tools is expected, along with demonstrated ability to solve complex, constraint-heavy problems.
Nice-to-have skills include experience with observability stacks (metrics, tracing, logging) and background in scheduling, optimization, or resource allocation problems.
