Salary: EUR 85,000 - 120,000 / annual

You'll join the Platform team as a Senior Backend Engineer, owning the full lifecycle of Java services that power Soda Cloud—from design and development through production deployment on AWS and Kubernetes. This is fundamentally a backend engineering role where infrastructure expertise enables you to own services end-to-end, not a DevOps or SRE position.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build robust backend services and APIs in Java for a multi-tenant SaaS platform (primary focus)
- Ship product features end-to-end, working directly with product and customers to shape solutions
- Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of services across AWS/Kubernetes infrastructure
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and observability systems that multiply team velocity
- Develop systems that enable agentic development: fast CI feedback, reliable dev environments, and safe deployment guardrails
- Drive architectural decisions from service design to platform evolution
Required experience:
- 5+ years building backend software at product companies, with real production service ownership
- Strong Java: APIs, async processing, concurrency, performance tuning
- Solid SQL in backend context: schema design, query optimization, production migrations (MySQL, ClickHouse)
- Architectural judgment understanding how design choices impact data flow, query patterns, latency, and failure modes
- Production experience running services on Kubernetes and AWS (EKS, IAM, networking, RDS, S3)
- CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD/Flux, Terraform/Pulumi, scripting)
- Observability practices: metrics, logging, tracing (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), testing
- Hands-on experience shipping production code with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.)
- Independence in distributed, async teams across multiple countries
- Fluent English
