Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform, enabling users to trade on real-world outcomes across politics, economics, sports, and current affairs. The platform processed $21B in trading volume in 2025 and operates as a peer-to-peer marketplace with no centralized house.
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Trust & Safety team, you will design and build the detection, monitoring, and case-management systems that keep the platform compliant and safe at scale. This role has high ownership and direct impact on Polymarket's risk posture, partnering closely with Compliance, Risk, and Legal teams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building detection and monitoring tooling to meet AML/BSA, KYC/EDD, and sanctions-screening obligations at scale
- Integrating with trade-surveillance and case-management platforms (e.g., Eventus, Palantir) and structuring audit-grade data pipelines with tiered storage and long-term retention in S3
- Modeling and reconciling financial data (FinOps, ledger reconciliation) to ensure auditability and accuracy of money-movement records
- Translating regulatory requirements into engineering systems including alerting, case queues, and investigative reporting
- Developing real-time risk decisioning and transaction-monitoring systems to detect and respond to financial crime
- Collaborating cross-functionally with platform engineers to keep Trust & Safety systems tightly integrated with the broader exchange
Ideal candidates bring backend engineering experience building detection, monitoring, or case-management tooling for AML/BSA, KYC/EDD, or sanctions-screening at scale. Experience integrating trade-surveillance platforms, structuring audit-grade data pipelines, and modeling financial data is expected. A track record partnering directly with Compliance, Risk, and Legal teams to translate regulatory requirements into systems is essential. Background in risk/fraud or compliance-technology engineering at fintech or crypto exchanges (Coinbase, Robinhood) is highly valued. Experience building real-time risk decisioning or transaction-monitoring systems at scale is a plus.
