N26, Europe's leading digital bank, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with security or SRE expertise to join its Security Engineering team in Barcelona. You will design and own end-to-end backend services for the N26 Security Platform, building internal products and automation engines that support specialized security teams across the organization.
Key responsibilities include architecting high-availability, high-performance backend services; developing tools and automation for threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management at scale; acting as a technical partner to various teams; and maintaining exceptional standards for code quality, software architecture, and system reliability. You will own the full lifecycle of your services using modern CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code, embodying the "You Build It, You Run It" philosophy.
Required qualifications: 5+ years building production-grade backend software in large-scale systems; solid experience with software development best practices and modern architectures (Distributed Systems, Domain-Driven Design); cloud architecture experience (preferably AWS) with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes); commitment to clean code, comprehensive testing, and system scalability; and full professional English proficiency.
Nice-to-have skills include SRE or security automation background (SAST/DAST, SIEM, SOAR, automated patching); event streaming experience (Apache Kafka); Infrastructure as Code expertise (Terraform); data engineering familiarity; and Java/Kotlin with Spring Boot development experience.
