GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Monetization Platform Integrations team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain integrations that connect CustomersDot and Monetization services to GitLab's enterprise applications, including Salesforce, Workato, and Zuora. You'll own robust API contracts, protect data integrity across systems, and build resilient cross-platform workflows that underpin how customers buy, provision, and renew GitLab subscriptions.
Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining integrations between CustomersDot, Monetization services, and enterprise applications; defining and evolving REST and GraphQL API contracts with versioning and backward compatibility; building observable, fault-tolerant integration workflows with comprehensive error tracking and recovery mechanisms; ensuring data integrity and consistency across financial and subscription systems; reviewing merge requests from team members; and collaborating with Product, Finance, IT, Sales, and Support teams to translate cross-system needs into reliable integrations.
You'll work on projects such as API contracts between Monetization services and enterprise applications, event-driven integrations using webhooks and message-based patterns, resilient synchronization workflows with retries and idempotency, and reconciliation and data integrity checks across integrated systems.
Required qualifications include professional experience with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL or similar relational databases in production; experience integrating with third-party or enterprise APIs and designing REST/GraphQL contracts; familiarity with event-driven patterns such as webhooks and message-based streaming; experience with data integrity and governance concepts; ability to own projects from concept to production; and strong communication skills in a remote, asynchronous environment. Experience with NATS JetStream, subscription management, or billing systems like Zuora or Salesforce is a plus.
