Salary: USD 126,700 - 158,400 / annual
Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for sustainable air mobility. This Senior Backend Engineer role focuses on building the connector framework and ingestion services that power a foundational data and services platform unifying enterprise systems into a canonical model.
You will architect and implement production Go services handling data reconciliation at scale. The platform follows a specific pattern: fetch and store raw API responses for debugging and replay, then transform them into canonical entities. You own the "system of record" for how the platform interacts with external source systems.
Key responsibilities include:
**Framework Engineering**: Build reusable connector infrastructure including authentication, circuit breaking, retries, and idempotency so new data sources focus purely on data logic.
**Canonical Mapping**: Design logic to map inconsistent enterprise data (Finance, HR, etc.) into strongly-typed entities, handling multi-source enrichment, unit normalization, and field-level provenance.
**Reliability & Replayability**: Implement synchronization strategies with watermark management for graceful failure recovery. Build infrastructure to store raw API responses, enabling re-processing when mapping logic evolves without re-querying source APIs.
**Performance & Observability**: Optimize for high-volume synchronization focusing on PostgreSQL performance, concurrent fetching, and batch upserts. Define and monitor metrics for throughput, data drift, and error rates.
**Collaboration**: Work with platform architects on schema evolution, entity contracts, and connector/platform layer boundaries.
Required qualifications: 6+ years backend engineering building distributed systems in production; proficiency in Go or similar strongly-typed concurrent languages; strong PostgreSQL expertise (schema design, indexing, performance tuning); experience designing distributed systems; proven track record implementing idempotent systems, dead-letter queues, and backpressure management; experience designing delta/incremental synchronization with watermark tracking and safe failure recovery; cloud-native deployment experience (AWS or similar).
Preferred: enterprise integration experience with complex ERP/HR APIs (SAP, Workday); understanding of polling versus event-driven patterns (CDC/Kafka); experience structuring data for downstream AI/LLM consumption.
