Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform, enabling users to trade on real-world outcomes across politics, economics, sports, and culture. The platform processed $21B in trading volume in 2025 and is growing rapidly as an alternative news source powered by sophisticated market infrastructure.
You'll join as a Senior Backend Engineer focused on building and scaling the payments infrastructure that powers deposits, withdrawals, and money movement across the platform. This is a high-ownership individual contributor role sitting at the intersection of engineering and regulated financial operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and leading migrations from legacy or monolithic systems to reliable, distributed payments services using Go, gRPC, DynamoDB, and MySQL with zero production disruption
- Building and maintaining integrations with payment processors, banking rails, and card networks to support deposits, withdrawals, and settlement
- Partnering cross-functionally with Product, Compliance, and Design to deliver high-stakes financial features including KYC/EDD, fraud detection, and reconciliation
- Owning production on-call responsibilities for money-movement systems where correctness, reliability, and auditability are non-negotiable
- Mentoring engineers, onboarding new hires, and leading backlog grooming and technical debt reduction efforts
- Collaborating across the platform engineering team to keep payments systems tightly integrated with the broader exchange
You should have senior-level backend engineering experience with payments, fintech, or financial-data integrations (Stripe, banking rails, card networks). Proven track record leading migrations from legacy systems to distributed services without production disruption is essential. Experience partnering with Product, Compliance, and Design on regulated or high-stakes financial features is required. Comfort with production on-call ownership for money-movement systems and a track record of mentoring and driving team process are important. Plus factors include experience in crypto, prediction markets, or high-growth regulated fintech, as well as cloud deployment (AWS/GCP) and containerization.
