Tennr is building AI-driven infrastructure to streamline healthcare referrals and insurance authorization. The company uses proprietary vision language models and large language models to automate the complex paperwork that delays patient care and provider payments. You'll join as a founding Senior Backend Engineer focused on ML Platform infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to architect and own the foundational systems powering Tennr's ML stack from the ground up—training pipelines, inference serving, data pipelines, and the observability layer that keeps everything reliable as traffic scales. Key responsibilities include: - Architecting and scaling cloud infrastructure for ML training, inference, and data pipelines - Designing resilient systems for model deployment, evaluation, and monitoring - Owning observability across the stack (logging, metrics, tracing, alerting) - Troubleshooting production issues and optimizing performance and efficiency - Collaborating with ML engineers, backend engineers, and product teams to integrate models with data pipelines You'll need 4+ years building and scaling distributed systems or infrastructure in production, strong backend fundamentals (Python, TypeScript), hands-on AWS and PostgreSQL experience, and solid understanding of observability and incident response. Prior ML ops/infra experience is not required—what matters is strong system design thinking and genuine interest in growing into ML infrastructure. Nice-to-haves include exposure to inference engines (vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT) or Kubernetes. Tennr values ownership and speed in a startup environment. You'll work 4 days/week from their Hudson Square office, with unlimited PTO, fully paid health benefits, 401(k) match, and competitive parental leave.
