Constructor is an AI-first e-commerce search and discovery platform launched in 2019 that helps global e-commerce brands drive revenue and conversion gains through intelligent product discovery.
The ML Infrastructure team builds and operates shared backend services and platform capabilities that enable Constructor's ML and product teams to develop, deploy, and run machine learning at scale. This includes model serving (including LLMs), specialized storage systems, and data pipelines. The team operates as a service organization, with roadmaps shaped by product team needs, succeeding when internal teams can move faster with less friction.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of core ML infrastructure services. Key focus areas include making ML workloads easy to run and scale for every team, providing self-service configurable infrastructure components, and owning core ML services with high reliability and performance standards.
You will design, build, and operate high-load distributed backend services powering the company's ML infrastructure. Responsibilities include end-to-end ownership from design and implementation through deployment, observability, and continuous improvement. You'll partner closely with ML and product teams to understand their needs and translate them into reliable, reusable platform capabilities. You'll make and defend technical decisions by evaluating trade-offs and owning outcomes.
Required qualifications: 5+ years professional backend or platform engineering experience, extensive Python knowledge (primary language), hands-on cloud development (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or Kubernetes experience, experience designing distributed high-load services and APIs, strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, design-driven engineering mindset with comfort using modern AI tools, and demonstrated ownership and proactivity.
Nice-to-have skills include Rust/C++/Go experience, ML platform or infrastructure development background, vector database setup and operation (Qdrant, Milvus, Weaviate, OpenSearch, pgvector), model serving/inference infrastructure experience, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) familiarity.
Constructor offers unlimited vacation (minimum 3 weeks encouraged), fully remote work, home office stipend, Apple laptops, annual training and development budget, parental leave, and regular team offsites.
