OpenFX is building infrastructure for next-generation cross-border payment systems for institutions, with a mission to move money as freely as data across time zones and legacy systems. The company is backed by top-tier investors (Accel, Lightspeed, NfX) and led by a team with experience from J.P. Morgan, Goldman Sachs, FalconX, PayPal, Affirm, Polygon, Kraken, and Nium.
You will join the Trading team as a Senior Backend Engineer (L3), owning significant portions of the Client Trading Engine and Pricing Engine end-to-end. The Trading team owns the entire client trade experience: quote generation, pricing strategy, the spread engine, and trade lifecycle across GUI, API, and conversational AI. Your north star is Total Payment Volume, with Gross Revenue as the control metric.
Key responsibilities include designing and building services across the trade path (quoting, pricing, spread application, trade lifecycle management); owning features end-to-end from scoping through technical design, delivery, rollout, and operational health; driving work to closure with Product, Design, and Operations teams; acting as a product engineer who understands business impact and makes hard prioritization calls; building for correctness and latency on live client trade paths; instrumenting systems with logging, metrics, and alerting; designing for failure with retries, idempotency, and safe recovery; exposing trading capability across surfaces (GUI, API, conversational AI); raising the bar through code review and mentoring L1/L2 engineers; building healthy engineering-excellence and tech-debt backlogs; participating in on-call and incident response; and connecting technical work directly to business metrics.
Must-haves: 4–6 years building and operating production backend systems; proven trading background (exchange, brokerage, or trading platform like CoinDCX, Groww, CoinSwitch Kuber); strong system design, data modeling, and API design fundamentals with distributed systems experience; solid OOP and low-level design pattern knowledge; production engineering instincts (observability, debugging, performance tuning, incident response); comfort with abstract, ambiguous problems; hands-on, high-agency approach; heavy AI tool user with real technique; data-driven mindset and clear written communication for async, globally distributed work.
Standout qualifications: experience with pricing, quoting, or spread engines; FX, multi-currency systems, or cross-border payments; market data, order books, or market microstructure.
