lemon.markets is a Brokerage-as-a-Service platform enabling FinTechs, banks, and wealth managers to offer investment products across Europe through a single, well-documented API. As part of the dwpbank group, the company operates as an independent fintech with its own product and startup identity. In this Senior Backend Engineer role within the Investing domain, you will design and own reliable, scalable backend services for the brokerage API platform. You'll build systems across the full securities lifecycle: instruments and market data, orders and trades, portfolios and positions, taxes, clearing and settlements, corporate actions, and reporting. You will take end-to-end ownership in a cross-functional team, working with internal and external partners to deliver secure, resilient systems for customer and institutional order workflows, including batch trading, transfers, transaction reporting, and market abuse screening. The tech stack is Python, FastAPI, AWS, and PostgreSQL. You should have strong experience writing well-structured, maintainable, and well-tested code in modern languages (Python, Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, or TypeScript). You'll design and implement highly scalable architecture and reliable REST APIs, with solid experience in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their architectural patterns. Database experience with MySQL/PostgreSQL is essential, and you should be able to guide other engineers through code reviews. You have a track record of designing, building, and operating reliable backend systems in cross-functional teams. Prior fintech or financial services experience is a plus but not required. You see yourself as a product engineer excited by solving customer problems and becoming an expert in your domain. You enjoy modifying and scaling existing systems while advocating for engineering best practices and taking technical decisions. You're ready to take ownership with no supervision, thrive on high-quality outcomes, and are a natural team player who shares knowledge and mentors others. You're comfortable learning new technologies on the go and understand startup/lean environments where you can move quickly and focus on what matters. The company offers competitive salary based on experience, flexible working hours with core collaboration hours 12:00–16:00, and a hybrid model allowing work from anywhere in Germany with 4+ days per month on-site in Berlin. You'll receive regular mentorship, stretch opportunities, and a clear career development framework with frequent feedback.
