As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Growth Engineering team, you will build products and platforms that directly impact pipeline, revenue, and go-to-market effectiveness. The team is increasingly focused on applied AI—turning new model capabilities into reliable products that help Sales and Marketing teams access trusted information, make better decisions, and execute complex workflows.
You will own projects spanning agent workflows, enterprise integrations, evaluation systems, and backend infrastructure. You'll also contribute to broader systems powering lead management, attribution, and sales/marketing automation. This role requires strong product and engineering judgment, direct collaboration with users, and the ability to translate ambiguous opportunities into production software.
Key responsibilities include: building applied AI products and backend systems that impact revenue; turning emerging AI capabilities into reliable product experiences (agents, tools, integrations, guardrails); working directly with Sales, Marketing, and Operations to identify high-value opportunities; designing and operating APIs, services, workflows, and data pipelines; owning projects from prototype through production with attention to speed, reliability, security, and observability; and helping shape the team's technical direction.
You bring 4+ years of production backend or full-stack engineering experience, strong Python (or equivalent) proficiency, a track record of independently owning ambiguous projects, strong product judgment, experience building reliable systems with external APIs and enterprise software, curiosity about applied AI, and a history of coaching engineers and raising technical standards.
Nice-to-have skills include experience with LLMs, AI agents, multi-step workflows, AI system evaluation, context engineering, AWS/serverless architectures, and GTM-facing systems (CRM, campaigns, revenue).
The role is based on-site at Verkada's San Mateo headquarters, five days per week, reporting to an Engineering Manager.
