CarOnSale is an AI-powered operating system for B2B used car trading in Europe, connecting 40,000+ buyers across 20+ countries and facilitating 130,000 vehicle sales annually through its auction backend platform. The company integrates software, pricing intelligence, logistics, and financing into a unified layer serving the automotive trading industry.
As Senior Backend Engineer, you will own backend development end-to-end: technology selection, architecture design, and implementation of features that drive platform performance and scale. You will design and set the standards for code quality, development practices, and CI/CD pipelines, working cross-functionally to enforce these standards in code review. You will mentor engineers around you, raising the bar on backend practices and challenging approaches when better solutions exist.
You will build AI-first, with coding agents, LLMs, and AI-assisted development integrated into daily workflows. You will work with TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, and PostgreSQL at scale, managing real-time systems, search frameworks, and complex backend infrastructure.
Required: 8+ years software engineering experience with 5+ years focused on backend development. Deep TypeScript proficiency, strong Node.js/NestJS/PostgreSQL expertise, proven mentorship track record, solid Git/Docker/CI/CD command, and fluent English (C1+). You must be comfortable with Scrum/Kanban, JIRA, Confluence, and have an AI-native working style. Based in Berlin or willing to relocate.
Nice-to-have: WebSockets/real-time systems experience, Elasticsearch or Lucene search frameworks, automotive or B2B trading background.
Role is hybrid: 3 days office in Berlin-Schöneberg, 2 days remote.
