LaunchDarkly is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Experimentation team, which is building a strategic product platform that enables engineering organizations to make data-driven product decisions with statistical confidence. The Experimentation team sits at the intersection of large-scale systems, data science, and user experience. The platform helps customers set up, manage, and analyze experiments with ease while maintaining the rigor required by advanced data teams. The team leverages LaunchDarkly's massive feature management scale and warehouse-native analysis capabilities to tackle ambitious technical problems with visible customer impact. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and operate the services powering this product, contribute to technical direction, and deliver new functionality to customers. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and engineers across LaunchDarkly to solve complex, data-intensive problems. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, and operate scalable backend services and APIs for the Experimentation product - Own backend components across their full lifecycle: discovery, design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement - Build systems supporting experiment setup, event data ingestion, metric computation, results processing, and presentation - Contribute to architectural decisions and technical proposals, balancing scalability, reliability, performance, cost, and maintainability - Partner with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into reliable technical solutions - Collaborate with Data Platform, Warehouse Integrations, SDK, and other teams on shared data flows and dependencies - Investigate complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable fixes - Improve observability, testing, deployment safety, and system reliability - Participate in on-call rotation in a you-build-it-you-run-it culture - Support teammates through code reviews, design reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship Required qualifications: - 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with significant backend services production experience - Fluency using AI tools in software engineering workflows with judgment to direct, evaluate, and validate AI-generated output - Experience designing and delivering scalable, reliable, observable, and maintainable customer-facing systems - Strong programming experience in Go or comparable backend languages (Python, Rust, C++); team uses Go - Experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, data pipelines, APIs, data modeling, or data-intensive services - Familiarity with analytical, operational, or warehouse data stores (ClickHouse, Postgres, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Databricks, or equivalent) - Experience diagnosing production issues and improving reliability through metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and observability practices - Experience working in cloud environments with infrastructure-as-code or equivalent deployment tooling - Ability to take ambiguous problems from discovery through design, implementation, launch, and ongoing operation
