Scribe is a specialized intelligence platform used by 94% of the Fortune 500 to capture and operationalize how teams work. The company has grown to 7 million users across 600,000 businesses since 2019 and is valued at over $1 billion.
As a Senior Backend Engineer focused on Data Ingestion, you will design and build the backend systems powering Scribe's data ingestion, workflow processing, and AI inference capabilities. This role sits at the intersection of application engineering and distributed systems, requiring deep thinking about scalability, performance, and reliability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and evolving large-scale data ingestion and processing pipelines that handle millions of data points
- Building services that power AI inference with Scribe's in-house models
- Improving performance of business-critical systems across the platform
- Designing, deploying, and operating microservices in production AWS environments
- Writing reliable, maintainable code across Python, TypeScript, and Go
- Partnering with teammates to deploy, monitor, and operate systems at scale
You should bring 8+ years of backend application development experience with Python, TypeScript, or Go. Deep production experience with distributed systems is essential, including message queues (Celery, SQS, RabbitMQ, Kafka), background job processing, and task orchestration. You've built large-scale data ingestion systems and understand the challenges of scale, reliability, and performance. Experience designing and maintaining microservices, optimizing endpoint performance, improving database query efficiency, and troubleshooting production bottlenecks is required. You write pragmatic, high-quality code and care about maintainability as much as velocity. Django experience and startup/high-growth environment background are nice-to-haves.
The role is hybrid, based in San Francisco with 3 days per week in office. Scribe offers competitive compensation including salary, equity, health/dental/vision insurance, flexible PTO, 401(k), paid parental leave, catered lunches, commuter benefits, and home office stipend.
