Postman is the world's leading API platform used by 45+ million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Cloud Platform team, you will design and develop core backend services that power Postman's internal infrastructure platform, enabling faster delivery, better scalability, and stronger developer experience across the engineering organization.
You will architect and build backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate (JPA) on cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Istio, and Terraform. Key responsibilities include designing services that manage deployment, lifecycle, and scaling across Kubernetes clusters; implementing GitOps workflows with ArgoCD to support continuous delivery; integrating with cloud-native tooling such as Istio, Helm, and Terraform; and applying strong software engineering practices including testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and documentation.
You'll drive innovation by contributing to open-source projects where applicable and collaborate cross-functionally with Cloud Architects, DevOps engineers, and product teams to align solutions with business needs. You'll ensure performance, reliability, and scalability of services running at Postman's scale.
Required qualifications include 5+ years of professional backend software development experience, strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and Hibernate (JPA), proven experience designing and maintaining APIs and distributed backend services, and familiarity with Kubernetes, Argo, Istio, and Terraform. You should have strong understanding of software design principles (scalability, extensibility, resilience), experience with build and testing tools (Gradle, Maven, JUnit), proficiency with Git and Gitflow workflows, excellent collaboration and communication skills, and a strong security mindset with awareness of compliance frameworks.
