lemon.markets is a Brokerage-as-a-Service platform enabling FinTechs, banks, and wealth managers to offer investment products across Europe through a single, well-documented API. As part of the dwpbank group, the company operates as an independent fintech with its own team and product identity. In this Senior Backend Engineer role focused on the Banking domain, you will design and own reliable, scalable backend services that power settlements, payments, and ledger accuracy for partners and their customers. You'll take end-to-end ownership within a cross-functional team, ensuring operational compliance meets regulatory and contractual SLAs while tracking partner-visible incidents affecting trust and assets under custody. Key responsibilities include: - Building and operating systems across settlements, payments, and ledger accuracy - Designing highly scalable architecture and world-class REST APIs - Ensuring cash flows are fast, reliable, and reconciliation reflects reality - Guiding other engineers through code reviews and mentorship - Contributing to architectural decisions that impact the core Platform & Systems - Working with Python, FastAPI, AWS, and PostgreSQL You bring: - Strong experience writing well-structured, maintainable, tested code in modern languages (Python, Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, TypeScript) - Proven track record designing, building, and operating reliable, scalable backend systems - Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and associated architectural patterns - Solid understanding of relational or document-based databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) - Product engineering mindset—excited by solving customer problems and becoming a domain expert - Ability to take ownership, work decisively with minimal supervision, and maintain high quality standards - Strong team collaboration and mentorship skills with potential to grow into team lead roles - Comfort working in lean, startup-like environments and learning new technologies on the go Fintech or financial services experience is a plus but not required.
