Venn is a rapidly growing B2B fintech platform transforming business banking for Canadian entrepreneurs. The company has scaled to support over 10,000 Canadian businesses in under two years and has raised $26.5M from top-tier investors including Gradient, Left Lane Capital, Intact, and XYZ Venture Capital.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead the development of financial services products from the ground up, including transfers, cards, lending, and other banking features. You'll ensure systems are production-ready and operate with significant independence, working directly with product owners and cross-functional teams (product, sales, operations) to understand and solve customer pain points.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building scalable backend systems for financial products
- Integrating with banking partners and third-party APIs to enable features like virtual cards, international money transfers, and financial data tracking
- Collaborating with product and operations teams to translate customer needs into technical solutions
- Shipping features in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
You'll bring 6+ years of backend development experience with 5+ years specifically in Java. You should have a track record of building, scaling, and supporting production-ready systems from scratch. The ideal candidate is a quick learner with an entrepreneurial mindset, excellent communication skills, and experience in fast-growing startups or fintech environments. Experience with payment products (card issuing, money transfers, credit) is a plus.
