Venn is a rapidly growing B2B fintech platform transforming business banking for Canadian entrepreneurs. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will lead the development of financial services products from the ground up, including transfers, cards, lending, and other banking features. You'll ensure systems are production-ready and operate with significant independence, working directly with product owners and cross-functional teams (product, sales, operations) to understand and solve customer pain points.
Key responsibilities include:
- Architecting and building scalable backend systems for financial products
- Integrating with banking partners and third-party APIs to enable features like virtual cards, international money transfers, and financial data tracking
- Collaborating with product and operations teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Shipping features in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment
- Mentoring and guiding technical decisions across the backend team
You bring 6+ years of backend development experience with 5+ years specifically in Java. You have a proven track record building and scaling production-ready systems from scratch. You're a quick learner with an entrepreneurial mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in ambiguity. Experience at early-stage startups, fintech companies, or with payment products (card issuing, money transfers, credit) is highly valued.
