Salary: USD 193,461 - 291,000 / annual

Offchain Labs is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to work on core infrastructure powering Arbitrum, the leading Ethereum scaling solution. You will tackle complex distributed systems challenges, optimize performance, and contribute to the security and scalability of blockchain infrastructure. Key responsibilities include: - Work on core infrastructure powering Arbitrum (20% of time) - Tackle distributed systems challenges, optimize performance, and enhance security and scalability (10%) - Collaborate with research, product, and blockchain engineering teams on cutting-edge blockchain technology (10%) - Provide technical support and engineering guidance to clients and internal stakeholders, diagnosing and resolving core platform engineering issues (10%) - Maintain the Nitro Testnode product, a development tool for running local Arbitrum nodes, including enhancements, troubleshooting, and ensuring reliability (10%) - Conduct peer code reviews to ensure code quality, architectural consistency, and adherence to best practices (15%) - Establish and evangelize backend architectural standards, tech stack selection, and engineering best practices (5%) - Design high-performance compiler pipelines and extensible SDK frameworks (10%) - Collaborate with Security to resolve complex security issues and identify vulnerabilities in distributed systems (5%) - Drive technical roadmap with Product team for distributed systems and data modeling, overseeing microservices integration, database scalability, and API-first strategies (5%) Offchain Labs is a pioneer in blockchain scalability and security, backed by $124 million in funding. The team is composed of thinkers and doers tackling unprecedented problems in decentralized systems. The role is 100% remote but requires US residency (excluding California and Colorado). Reports to headquarters in New York, NY. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or related field, plus 5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, Software Architect, or equivalent designing, developing, and securing blockchain-based backend systems. OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or related field, plus 3 years of professional experience in the same capacity. - 3 years of professional experience developing backend systems using backend programming languages (Go or Rust) - 3 years working on protocols spanning L1s to L2s, including systems reducing dependence on L1 smart contracts - 3 years collaborating with research teams on cutting-edge blockchain and cryptocurrency research - 3 years building distributed systems, focusing on reliable broadcast protocols, distributed data structures, and high-performance database storage engines - 3 years working collaboratively with security teams and coding with security-focused mindset in distributed systems - 3 years working with blockchain protocols - 1 year of experience with WebAssembly, including writing high-performance and high-security production code - 1 year of professional experience with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes)
