Obsidian Security is a leading SaaS security platform protecting 200+ global enterprises including Fortune 1000 companies like Snowflake, T-Mobile, and Algolia. Founded in 2017 and backed by top-tier investors like Greylock, the company was built by security leaders from CrowdStrike, Okta, Cylance, and Carbon Black to close a critical gap in SaaS application security across Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and hundreds of other platforms.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will build and maintain the core backend processing systems powering Obsidian's SaaS security platform. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable APIs and backend services, including multithreaded applications; maintaining and evolving existing systems for performance, resilience, and scalability; collaborating with product and engineering teams to deliver high-impact features; and applying strong software engineering practices to requirements gathering, system design, and code reviews.
You'll work in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where adaptability and teamwork are essential. The role offers direct impact on enterprise-grade security products used worldwide, opportunities to grow your skills with emerging technologies, and a supportive culture.
Required qualifications include 5-7 years of software engineering experience; proficiency in Python, Go, or SQL; experience building backend services, APIs, and multithreaded applications; familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes; strong knowledge of relational databases like Postgres; experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), object storage (S3), or event/streaming systems (Kafka, Redis); Git version control; and GitLab CI/CD deployment tooling.
Desirable experience includes system monitoring and observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus), quality engineering practices, and exposure to large-scale distributed systems and performance optimization. As an AI-forward engineering organization, you're expected to leverage AI tools effectively, be proficient with AI-powered developer tools, understand core AI/ML concepts (LLMs, embeddings, vector databases), have experience integrating AI/ML APIs and building AI-ready data infrastructure, and ensure data quality, governance, observability, reliability, security, and performance in AI-driven systems.
