As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of different parts of the technology stack, working alongside the CTO on current and future product development. You'll collaborate directly with the founding team, leveraging your experience to inform product, technology, and strategy decisions. You'll help establish the company's culture, processes, and practices while solving complex technical problems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Writing, reviewing, and shipping production code that drives meaningful customer and business outcomes
- Leveraging generative AI tools daily to improve quality, speed, and effectiveness of technical work
- Taking full ownership of software reliability, maintainability, and production performance
- Evaluating and driving technical decisions with long-term perspective, balancing speed, quality, security, and scalability
- Troubleshooting complex production challenges and serving as a trusted technical resource
- Learning and adapting quickly to unfamiliar technologies, codebases, and domains using first-principles thinking
- Creating technical champions through demos, prototypes, examples, and technical content
- Collaborating closely with engineers, designers, sales executives, and stakeholders in an in-person environment
- Communicating openly, sharing decision rationale, and seeking feedback to keep the team aligned
- Championing improvements across the enterprise software development lifecycle
- Operating independently with optimism, accountability, and willingness to overcome obstacles

QUALIFICATIONS:
- 6+ years of direct experience with Python, Terraform, and cloud infrastructure (GCP required; AWS or Azure a plus)
- Advanced proficiency in Python with strong experience building and scaling microservices and backend systems
- Hands-on experience with Python backend frameworks (Django, FastAPI, Flask); Node.js frameworks (Express.js, NuxtJS) a plus
- Strong programming fundamentals across Python and at least one additional language (JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C++, or Go)
- Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes and Terraform
- Proficiency with API architectures including REST, gRPC, and GraphQL
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Firebase)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, CircleCI, GitLab)
- Experience with version control systems (Git)
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture and distributed system design
- Familiarity with AI platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face, Vertex AI, Amazon Bedrock, SageMaker)
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale enterprise-grade applications with 99%+ service-level availability
