Altruist is transforming the wealth management industry by building an AI platform for financial advisors. The company partners with financial advisors nationwide to help them grow, optimize resources, and deliver superior outcomes for their clients.
You will join the Engineering organization during an exceptional growth phase, working on high-impact, high-visibility projects with a focus on security, scalability, and reliability of the platform. This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in the San Francisco FiDi office.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a leader and steward of engineering best practices, mentoring other engineers and developing impactful solutions
- Independently own problems from design through implementation and production
- Build and extend identity and access management capabilities including authentication, authorization, RBAC, and OAuth/OIDC flows
- Implement improvements to AWS and cloud infrastructure, including security posture, configuration, and operational guardrails
- Improve database performance, security, and optimization across high-volume transactional systems
- Harden APIs, services, and distributed systems against failure and abuse
- Contribute to production reliability through incident response, remediation, root cause analysis, and observability improvements
- Partner with Security/CISO team to turn identified gaps into durable engineering fixes
- Analyze and solve complex problems spanning multiple user personas and workflows
- Build and scale services and user-facing web applications that are customer-centric, performant, and secure
The tech stack includes Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, AWS, Postgres, Kubernetes, React.js, Typescript, and GraphQL.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of software engineering experience building precise and scalable distributed systems with best engineering practices
- Hands-on execution ability: can own well-defined problems end-to-end and drive to production without close direction
- Full-stack capability with backend lean; primarily a backend engineer but comfortable working across the stack; core engineering background preferred over purely product-focused
- Track record of building, not just reviewing; shipped work in security, scale, or infrastructure; this is a builder role focused on remediation and delivering hardened systems
- B.A./B.S. degree in Computer Science or similar Engineering/Mathematics degrees (ideally)
- Technical aptitude with ability to get up to speed on modern tech stacks
- Domain exposure in fintech, payments, or other security-sensitive, highly regulated environments (a plus)
- Ownership, superb communication, resilience, and creative problem-solving skills
