The Exploration Company is seeking a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to design, develop, integrate, and validate spacecraft avionics systems. This role focuses on delivering robust electronic systems for data handling, communications, and control across all mission phases. Key responsibilities include defining avionics system architectures encompassing electronics, data handling, and communication functions; ensuring end-to-end consistency of data flows, interfaces, and system-level requirements; and supporting selection of avionics equipment, computing platforms, sensors, and communication hardware. You will contribute to spacecraft-level trade-offs between performance, reliability, mass, power, and cost. The engineer will define onboard and ground-related communication and data handling concepts, support implementation of telemetry and telecommand architectures, and ensure reliable data acquisition, processing, storage, and transmission under mission constraints. Interface management is critical—you will define and manage interfaces between avionics and other spacecraft subsystems (power, propulsion, GNC, payload) and ensure compatibility across spacecraft, launch vehicle, and ground segment interfaces. A significant aspect of this role involves presenting and substantiating avionics subsystem designs and verification evidence to external regulatory and certification authorities including NASA, ESA, and other government agencies, supporting spacecraft qualification, safety, and flight certification. You will define and support verification and validation strategies, participate in simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing, analyze results, and drive corrective actions. Requirements engineering responsibilities include capturing, analyzing, and managing system and subsystem requirements with full traceability from mission objectives through implementation and validation. The role requires close collaboration with software, hardware, systems, operations, and mission engineering teams, participation in design reviews and technical exchanges, and support for integration campaigns and mission operations. Required: degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent; 7+ years in avionics systems, electronics, embedded systems, or spacecraft engineering; strong understanding of electronic and embedded system architectures, communication and data handling principles, system integration and interface management; experience with requirements engineering and system lifecycle development; knowledge of verification and validation methods; and ability to work in multidisciplinary environments. Preferred: spacecraft avionics or aerospace systems experience; familiarity with space communication standards (CCSDS); HIL testing or digital engineering tools experience; safety-critical or mission-critical system development exposure; and international or multi-stakeholder team experience.
