Relativity Space is building next-generation rockets and space systems to serve commercial and scientific missions. As a Senior Avionics Mechanical Engineer, you will own the complete design, development, and delivery of mechanical hardware for advanced space science avionics platforms. This encompasses enclosures, mounting structures, thermal management systems, and interfaces to spacecraft systems.
You will be responsible for ensuring avionics hardware survives launch and space environments while solving complex thermal and structural challenges within tight, mass-efficient packaging constraints. This is a hands-on, self-driven role in a fast-paced, prototype-heavy environment where you'll work from first principles to rapidly iterate designs, perform structural and thermal analysis, conduct testing, and lead delivery of flight-ready mechanical systems.
The role sits within the Interplanetary Sciences Program, which aims to make planetary research faster, more affordable, and more capable by rethinking how science missions are designed and built. You'll collaborate across propulsion, manufacturing, software, and corporate teams to shape decisions and see your work deployed in record time.
Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, packaging, or thermal management for aerospace or ruggedized electronic systems. Experience with CAD, FEA, thermal analysis tools, and spacecraft/avionics environments is expected. You should be comfortable with rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration in a startup-like pace within an aerospace context.
