Varda Space Industries is accelerating commercial space infrastructure development, from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable reentry capsules. The company designs and operates W-Series vehicles in-house, including satellite buses, pharmaceutical processing payloads, heat shields, and reentry capsules. As a Senior Avionics Hardware Development Engineer, you will own the design and delivery of flight-critical electrical hardware for Varda's satellite bus, reentry vehicle, and customer payloads. Your responsibilities span the complete lifecycle: from schematic capture and PCB layout through design validation, fabrication, assembly, manufacturing test, and flight qualification. Key responsibilities include: - PCB-level electronics design across all lifecycle stages - Translating high-level mission objectives into subsystem requirements, designs, and developmental milestones - Serving as avionics subject matter expert, supporting GNC, pharmaceutical, mission operations, and integration teams - Cross-functional collaboration with flight software, thermal, GNC, and structures teams to assess system-level impacts - Ownership of product acceptance and qualification testing for space environments (thermal, vibration, shock, TVAC, EMI) - Direction on system-level integration test plans - Root cause analysis on test failures and implementation of flight risk mitigation strategies - Mentoring junior engineers on design methodologies and technical challenges You will work in Varda's El Segundo headquarters, which houses offices and production facilities for vehicle building, integration, and testing. The company was founded in 2021 by veterans from SpaceX, Blue Origin, and major pharmaceutical companies, backed by top-tier investors including Khosla Ventures, Lux Capital, and Founders Fund.
