Impulse is seeking a Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer to design and test custom circuit boards and avionics devices for Electra, their electric propulsion system. In this role, you will own electrical hardware designs and technical decisions, working cross-functionally with software engineers, propulsion engineers, GNC (guidance, navigation, and control) engineers, and manufacturing teams. Key responsibilities include independently developing and owning circuit boards for spacecraft electric propulsion systems, with emphasis on actuator drivers and power converters. You will perform rigorous analyses and simulations of avionics devices and systems, including subsystem and circuit-level trade studies to support design decisions. As the Responsible Engineering authority for your hardware, you will own designs from requirements definition through detailed design, board bring-up and debugging in the lab, qualification, and flight operations. You will define hardware interfaces, develop verification approaches, and ensure requirements are verified through analysis and test from system-level specifications. The role involves partnering with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, propulsion, and test teams. Development testing responsibilities span from single electrical designs to entire electrical systems. You will conduct design reviews, technical trade studies, and root-cause investigations, while establishing and maintaining high technical standards and mentoring less experienced engineers. Additionally, you will improve existing products throughout their lifecycle by troubleshooting issues, performing failure analysis, and implementing improvements. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field and 5+ years of professional experience developing electrical hardware. You must demonstrate expertise in electronic component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and layout. Knowledge of analog and power circuit design—including analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, op-amps, filtering, power and signal integrity—is essential. Hands-on experience troubleshooting complex electronics problems at the board level and strong communication skills for explaining technical challenges and resolving concerns are required.
