Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to join the Manufacturing Automation team. This role owns controls systems end-to-end, from architecture through commissioning, proof of rate, and sustainment handoff. You will be the technical system owner responsible for designing, integrating, and deploying automated manufacturing systems across Anduril factories at national scale.
Key responsibilities include architecting and developing PLC code on Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens platforms, producing structured, documented code suitable for high-volume manufacturing environments. You will design and maintain the OT networking stack for production, including MQTT, OPC UA, and TCP/IP protocols, with the ability to diagnose protocol, timing, and VLAN segmentation issues using packet-level analysis.
Infrastructure and security are critical: you will deploy and maintain OT server infrastructure including MQTT brokers and jump hosts with disciplined backup and change-control practices. You will apply defense-grade OT security practices including air-gapped design, IEC 62443/NIST 800-82 segmentation, Purdue-model layering, server hardening, and secure remote access.
You will partner cross-functionally with IT, Security, FactoryOS, and Manufacturing Engineering teams, representing the controls team in design reviews and cybersecurity buy-offs. Additional responsibilities include RJ45 wiring, switch configuration, automating system backups for both IT and OT environments, firewall configurations, and AWS EC2 management.
This is an opportunity to define production automation at scale for a cutting-edge defense technology company building AI-powered military systems.
