Amperesand is building intelligent, software-defined power infrastructure products based on advanced Solid State Transformer technology to support the next generation of energy systems. The company addresses a critical infrastructure gap: electricity demand is surging due to AI data centers, electric vehicles, and industrial growth, while energy supply is diversifying with solar, gas, and battery resources at scale. Yet the power infrastructure powering these systems hasn't meaningfully evolved in nearly 100 years.
As Senior Automation Controls Engineer, you will lead the design and development of advanced automation equipment and assembly lines as Amperesand scales its hardware product portfolio. This is a rare opportunity to embed yourself deeply in both product and manufacturing development, influencing design from concept through full-scale production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead conceptual development of new manufacturing equipment, balancing product specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality, and lead-time constraints
- Design and implement control-reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA R15.06 and OSHA standards for robots, gantries, conveyors, and high-throughput manufacturing systems
- Develop, structure, and debug PLC logic with emphasis on code architecture, documentation, maintainability, and long-term reusability
- Design and debug software for subsystems including robotics, vision systems, test equipment, and manufacturing execution systems (MES)
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing and mechanical design teams to define and implement robust machine and process architecture
- Develop comprehensive electrical and pneumatic schematics
- Lead programming and integration of control systems including PLCs, safety systems, HMIs, servo drives, process instrumentation, and robotics from power-up through debugging, optimization, and final validation
Amperesand is led by breakthrough energy hardware development veterans and funded by top-tier investors. The company operates hubs in San Francisco, Reno, and Singapore, with a global team focused on building foundational technology for power infrastructure at scale.
