Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The Kaleidos reactor is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe unit designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases, capable of running up to 5 years without refueling. The company is on track to test its first reactor at Idaho National Laboratory in summer 2026, with customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
As Senior Automation & Controls Engineer, you will partner closely with design and manufacturing teams to architect and implement automated production and test equipment supporting mass manufacturing and refueling operations. This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring both strategic system design and detailed execution.
Key responsibilities include: designing and managing end-to-end automation projects from ideation through commissioning and operational handoff; architecting, writing, and debugging PLC code emphasizing organization, documentation, and reusability for high-volume manufacturing; implementing ANSI/RIA R15.06 and OSHA-compliant safety systems for robots, gantries, conveyors, and other equipment; designing electrical systems to NEC, NFPA, and UL508A standards; selecting and sizing servo motors, controllers, and electromechanical components; managing electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid systems; and creating intuitive HMI screens for complex machine operation and troubleshooting.
Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science; 4+ years designing and commissioning automation and controls systems for industrial applications. Desired qualifications include Master's degree, process integration and mechatronic systems experience, robotic welding expertise (Kuka, ABB, Fanuc), PLC simulation, Zuken E3 CAD, C#/.NET/Python/SQL, Beckhoff TwinCat 3, Inductive Automation Ignition, fieldbus and Ethernet communication, electrical panel commissioning, and knowledge of NEC/NFPA 79/UL508A codes.
Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed. 100% onsite at El Segundo headquarters required. Compensation includes base salary, substantial equity grants, and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 8 weeks paid parental leave, catered lunch, flexible PTO).
