Iambic Therapeutics, a clinical-stage biotech company founded in 2020 and based in San Diego, is seeking a Senior Associate Scientist I/II in Purification Sciences to support small-molecule drug discovery and development. This hands-on role focuses on chromatography-based purification, with emphasis on preparative liquid chromatography (LC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) to support medicinal chemistry and high-throughput chemistry workflows.
Key responsibilities include performing routine and moderately complex small-molecule purifications using prep LC and SFC systems; developing and optimizing purification methods including column selection, mobile-phase optimization, gradient design, and fraction collection; operating prep LC, prep SFC, analytical LC, and LC/MS systems; performing analytical quality control of purified compounds; and conducting routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting of chromatography, fluidics, hardware, and software issues.
The role requires proactive monitoring of instrument performance to identify issues early and maintain reliable laboratory operations while minimizing downtime. The scientist will support high-throughput and automated purification workflows, including sample submission, purification, fraction handling, compound recovery, and data reporting. Close collaboration with medicinal chemists and other scientists is essential to prioritize samples and deliver purified compounds meeting purity, recovery, and turnaround time requirements.
Additional responsibilities include supporting evaluation and implementation of new purification methods, columns, instrumentation, and workflow improvements, as well as maintaining accurate experimental and instrument documentation and contributing to laboratory best practices.
Required qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in chromatography and small-molecule purification; working knowledge of chromatographic separation principles and method optimization; strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment.
Preferred qualifications include experience with preparative LC and/or preparative SFC (SFC highly desirable), operating and troubleshooting chromatography instrumentation, LC/MS-based characterization and purity assessment, automated or high-throughput laboratory workflows, and experience with Agilent, Shimadzu, SCIEX, or comparable platforms.
