The Senior Applications Engineer is a rare hybrid role combining mechanical, electrical, and software expertise. You'll work across the full customer lifecycle—from pre-sale solution design through post-install support—as the technical backbone for customer engagements requiring hands-on expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
**Solution Design & Proof of Concept**: Partner with sales and customers to understand automation goals and production constraints. Design practical solutions around Standard Bots hardware and build proof-of-concept prototypes to validate feasibility before customer commitment. Develop application notes, sample code, and documentation to help customers and internal teams replicate and scale solutions.
**Field Installation & Integration**: Travel to customer sites (up to 50% domestic travel) to install, program, wire, and commission robotic cells. Own the full integration from mechanical setup through software configuration—fixtures, I/O, PLC handshakes, safety protocols, testing, and sign-off. Troubleshoot on-site issues until resolution.
**Customer Training & Support**: Train customer operators and technicians on Standard Bots hardware and software both on-site and at company facilities. Provide post-install technical support as customers discover new applications. Serve as trusted technical resource for accounts you've worked with.
**Trade Shows & Demos**: Represent Standard Bots at industry events. Build and operate live demos, engage with engineers and plant managers, and showcase the breadth of Standard Bots capabilities.
**Internal Collaboration**: Feed real-world integration learnings back to hardware and software engineering teams. Assist in-house engineering with testing new features, peripherals, and integrations.
Required qualifications: 6+ years hands-on industrial automation experience including PLC programming/ladder logic, pneumatics, DC power systems, robot programming (any platform), and Python scripting. Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks preferred). Customer-facing experience explaining technical integrations to diverse audiences. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline (or equivalent hands-on experience). Comfort with up to 50% domestic travel and field-based work.
Nice-to-have: collaborative robot experience (UR, Fanuc, KUKA, ABB), machine tending/palletizing/welding/assembly automation, vision systems, force/torque sensing, custom end-of-arm tooling, manufacturing/factory floor background.
