Salary: USD 180,000 - 225,000 / annual
Temporal Technologies is seeking a Senior Application Security Engineer to secure the Temporal development pipeline, product, and customer execution environment. Temporal is an open-source programming model that simplifies code, improves application reliability, and helps developers focus on shipping features faster.
In this role, you will collaborate with product and engineering teams to integrate security principles into product design and architecture. You'll conduct threat modeling and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and attack vectors across the product surface. Key responsibilities include managing the secure development pipeline (code security and third-party library supply chain security), staying current on emerging security standards (OWASP Top 10 for LLMs, MCP security specifications), triaging bug bounty findings and responsibly disclosed vulnerabilities, and participating in on-call rotation.
You'll bring 5+ years of application or product security experience, with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent). Required expertise includes encryption, authentication, secure communication protocols, SAST/DAST tools, and penetration testing frameworks. You must understand application architecture across multiple programming languages, with strong knowledge of Kubernetes security (workload hardening, RBAC, admission control) and multi-tenant security architecture (data plane isolation, control plane hardening, cross-tenant data leakage prevention).
You'll have expertise in at least one programming language with familiarity in Python and Go. Excellent communication skills are essential—you'll explain complex security concepts to non-technical stakeholders and serve as a trusted security partner across the organization. Nice-to-have skills include distributed computing vulnerability experience, security champions program experience, open-source automation expertise, and security conference speaking or published research.
