Halter is a climate-tech company enabling farmers and graziers to run sustainable operations through virtual fencing technology. The system deploys communication infrastructure and collars for animals, paired with mobile and web applications, saving tens of hours of labour per week while improving animal welfare and land productivity.
As the first Senior Application Security Engineer, you will define and own Halter's application security strategy across a rapidly scaling platform serving hundreds of thousands of devices globally. The role spans the entire technical stack: mobile code, backend systems, and firmware running on collars.
Key responsibilities include:
- Proactively identify, assess, and prioritize security vulnerabilities and threats across systems, implementing mitigation strategies
- Research and define threat models as cornerstones for application and infrastructure security
- Define and evolve security practices and standards, balancing risk reduction with developer velocity
- Write and maintain high-quality code and tooling to resolve security issues across the full engineering stack
- Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineers, embedding security best practices into workflows
- Work closely with domain-specific teams on complex security challenges and investigations
- Drive security incident response readiness, detection, analysis, and resolution
- Define and maintain security incident response playbooks with automation
- Collaborate with third-party partners and vendors on audits and security tools
- Contribute to security education and awareness initiatives
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for security incidents
You will work primarily in the AWS ecosystem (managed and self-managed services) alongside an experienced platform engineering team that values Infrastructure as Code, autonomy, and craftsmanship.
