Expel is seeking a Senior AI Platform Engineer to build and mature the infrastructure powering machine learning and generative AI capabilities. You'll architect end-to-end ML training pipelines on AWS (SageMaker, EKS, Step Functions) and build infrastructure for production agentic applications using Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore, including agent runtimes, memory management, secure gateways, and observability at scale. Key responsibilities include designing and maintaining reliable, reproducible model development and deployment systems; implementing AI/ML governance best practices for model versioning, testing, validation, and security; integrating MLOps practices with the company's SDLC, security, and infrastructure standards; and partnering with data scientists and software engineers to operationalize ML models reliably at scale. You'll mentor junior engineers, foster engineering excellence, create documentation and internal tooling, and stay current with the MLOps landscape. You'll work closely with senior and principal engineers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams including SRE, Platform Engineering, and Security. The role emphasizes both hands-on technical contribution and collaborative leadership—mentoring others while driving quality, reliability, and scalability improvements. Required: 5+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful focus on ML operations and infrastructure; strong Python proficiency; solid experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and containerization for ML workloads; hands-on experience with AWS ML platforms (SageMaker, Bedrock, Bedrock AgentCore); proven experience operationalizing LLMs and building infrastructure for agentic applications (agent orchestration, memory, tool calling, RAG); familiarity with ML frameworks (Scikit-Learn, PyTorch, Spark, TensorFlow); and working knowledge of continuous retraining, concept drift monitoring, and data drift detection. Preferred: degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field; experience with GCP Vertex AI; familiarity with Go or JavaScript.
